Fresno County Fruit Trail points out local produce
By Mary Lou Aguirre

Maybe your summer activities have included a barbecue, a visit to a waterpark or time spent with relatives. Why not include a trip to gather produce that doesn't require pushing a shopping cart with a bum wheel?

The Fresno County Fruit Trail, featuring stops in Kingsburg and Selma, offers residents and visitors a chance to get closer to the source of fresh produce.

The trail, sponsored by the Fresno County Office of Tourism, highlights the cities and chambers of commerce of Clovis, Fowler, Fresno, Kingsburg, Orange Cove, Parlier, Reedley, Sanger and Selma. A complete list of stops can be found at www.gofruittrail.com.

Among the local stops featured on the trail is J&K Farley Farm at 512 N. 7th Ave., in Kingsburg. Farmers Jonathan and Keren Farley and their children welcome visitors to the only u-pick experience on the trail. Come prepared for your shoes to get dusty and start at the free petting zoo.

The Farleys provide cardboard boxes and a wagon to haul the produce. All produce is 45-cents per pound.

Peaches, plums, cucumbers, jalapeno peppers, apricots, tomatoes and grapes (when available) are all available for the picking. Continued...
