Seed Sprouting Basics
Chef Keith Snow

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

In this video you'll see some basic information on sprouting seeds. Seed sprouting can be a very interesting way to ensure your family gets super nutrition with a delicious and easy to produce, sustainable food source...sprouts.

Seed sprouting starts with selecting the right seeds to sprout. Then they are provided a medium to sprout in/on. Usually a very moist environment is needed for seeds to get their start. It takes as little as 3-5 days for sprouts to emerge and you can be harvesting them for a few days before you'll need to start over.

There are many, many different types of sprouts to try:

  1. alfalfa sprouts
  2. buckwheat sprouts
  3. garlic sprouts
  4. celery sprouts
  5. mung bead sprouts
  6. red bean spouts
  7. sunflower sprouts
  8. lentil sprouts
  9. broccoli sprouts

Never consumer potato or tomato sprouts as they can be poisonous!

Eat these types....

Sprouts are terrific on all types of foods but a few to consider are these :

  • sandwiches and wraps
  • on salads
  • on top of grilled fish
  • on top of cooked lentils
  • on top of a beautiful veggie omelet

Another terrific aspect about sprouts is that they contain super-nutrition. Just a few ounces of sprouts per week can provide plenty of fiber, vitamin C and other minerals your body needs. Sprouts are terrific survival food as well. Because they take up so little space and only need moisture and a little time, many people store sprout kits to be prepared for a long term power outage or other potential food shortages.

A good friend of mine sells a very complete kit for sprouting seeds and to put in your reserves.
